Для ногтей на ногах

Toenails call for different tools than fingernails: thicker nails, tougher keratin and a spot that is harder to reach. This category has everything you need for the job – toenail scissors, nail nippers, front cutters, corner lifters and probes.

Scissors, nippers or clippers for toenails?

  • Toenail scissors – the first choice for toenails of normal thickness. Sturdier and with a shorter blade than fingernail scissors, so the nail does not splinter.
  • Toenail scissors with a long handle – for when bending down is difficult. The extended handle brings the blade to the nail without you having to lift your foot.
  • Nail nipper or front cutter – as soon as the nail is so thick or callused that the scissors start to jam. Models with double leverage cut with a fraction of the hand strength.
  • Corner nipper and corner lifter – for ingrown nail corners and the nail fold, where neither scissors nor nippers can reach.

Straight or curved blade?

For toenails the rule is: cut straight. A straight blade follows the recommended cutting shape and helps prevent ingrown nails. Curved blades are meant for fingernails – on the foot they lead to the nail corner being cut back too far, so that it presses into the nail wall as it grows out.

What to look for when buying

  • Stainless steel – hygienic, easy to disinfect and re-sharpen. Nickel-plated instruments are not stainless; we state this in the product description.
  • Cleanly closing blades – they cut the nail instead of crushing it. Crushed nails tear later on.
  • Lever transmission – decisive when hand strength is fading and with hard nails.
  • Rounded tips – important for sensitive skin and for people with diabetes.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best way to cut thick toenails?

With a nail nipper or a front cutter. Soak the nails in warm water for a few minutes beforehand and work in several small cuts rather than one big one.

Which scissors are suitable for seniors?

Toenail scissors with an extra-long handle – or a nail nipper with leverage if hand strength is fading. You will find both versions in this category.

How often should toenails be cut?

Toenails grow more slowly than fingernails; every four to six weeks is usually enough. The nail should end flush with the tip of the toe and not protrude beyond it.
