Which burr for which task?

Carbide burrs – cut with toothed flutes and remove material powerfully. The choice for heavily thickened nails.
Diamond burrs – grind instead of cutting. Medium grit smooths and finishes; small cone and ball shapes work in the nail fold.
Roller or cylinder burrs – for working over larger areas of the nail plate and on calluses.
Sanding caps – disposable caps on a rubber mandrel for calluses on the heel and ball of the foot. Thermo sanding caps dissipate the heat that builds up.
Silicone polishers – for smoothing and polishing after drilling.

What to look for when buying

Shank: burrs for nail and foot care usually have a 2.35 mm shank and therefore fit common handpieces. Check the specification of your device.
Grit: coarse removes material, medium is the all-rounder, fine smooths. On diamond burrs a coloured ring usually shows the grit: green coarse, blue medium, red fine, yellow extra fine.
Diameter of the sanding caps: it must match the sanding cap mandrel.
Reprocessing: clean and disinfect burrs after every use – with a burr cleaning brush and a burr container. Sanding caps are disposable items.
