Collection: Cuticle Nippers
Cuticle nippers remove excess cuticle cleanly and under control – they cut the skin instead of tearing it off. Available in nipper form, scissor form and tweezer form, in brand quality from Dreiturm, RUCK, Erbe and Niegeloh.

Which design suits you?
- Nipper form – the classic. Two handles with a spring, powerful and easy to control. Ideal if you work on cuticles regularly.
- Scissor form – handles with finger rings, giving more control on fine work and comfortable for beginners.
- Tweezer form – slim and light, good for travelling and for small corrections.
Which cutting edge width?
The cutting edge width decides how much skin you take per cut. As a rule of thumb:
- 3 mm – very fine corrections, small remnants of skin, children's nails.
- 5 mm – the all-rounder for manicure at home.
- 7 to 9 mm – for tough cuticle and professional use in foot care and podiatry.
Use
Soak the nails in warm water first and push the cuticle back with a cuticle pusher. Then remove only the loose, whitish remnants of skin – the living cuticle stays in place, it protects the nail bed from germs. Place the nipper flat and cut in small steps instead of pulling in one piece.
Frequently asked questions
Cuticle nipper or cuticle scissors?
The nipper grips more firmly and suits thicker edges of skin; the scissors work more finely and are more comfortable on delicate cuticle. Anyone caring for both likes to keep both in the case.
How do I recognise a good cuticle nipper?
By the cutting edge: both halves must close flush and without offset. Hold the closed nipper up to the light – a visible gap means it crushes the skin instead of cutting it.

Frequently Asked Questions about Cuticle Nippers
What is a cuticle nippers used for?
A cuticle nippers (nail cuticle nippers) removes excess or protruding cuticle precisely, without injuring the surrounding skin. It is often used in podiatry and cosmetics because it cuts more cleanly than a regular cuticle scissors. To find out which one is best, see The Best Cuticle Nippers.
What is the difference between cuticle nippers and nail nippers?
The difference lies in the blade: cuticle nippers have a fine, short blade for thin skin. Nail nippers have a strong blade for hard nail plates. Cuticle nippers are not designed for cutting nails – they are exclusively for skin.
Cuticle nippers or cuticle scissors – which is better?
Cuticle nippers work precisely on individual spots of skin, while cuticle scissors are suited to fine, longer cuts. Many people use both, depending on the situation.
What types and shapes of cuticle nippers are there?
We carry cuticle nippers in plier form, in scissor form (with a scissor handle), and in tweezer form – in affordable versions as well as high-quality medical-grade instruments. You'll find all models under Cuticle Nippers.
Which blade length is right?
Blade length affects precision and control:
- 3–4 mm → very precise, ideal for beginners
- 5 mm → an all-round size for studio & home use
- 7 mm or longer → for experienced users and larger areas of skin
For most uses, a 5 mm blade is optimal.
What does double spring mean for cuticle nippers?
The spring makes the nippers reopen automatically after cutting. A single spring is the classic design, a bit firmer, and good for coarser work at the nail fold; a double spring runs more smoothly and allows for noticeably more precise, fatigue-free work – usually preferred by professionals.
How do I use cuticle nippers correctly?
- Clean and disinfect your hands
- Gently push back the cuticle
- Cut only excess, protruding skin
- Do not pull or tear
- Apply a nourishing oil afterwards
Important: never cut into healthy, firmly attached skin.
Cutting cuticles or pushing them back – which is better?
Pushing back is gentler for everyday care, cutting removes excess skin more thoroughly. Our guide Cutting or Pushing Back Cuticles? explains the differences; a pusher from our nail instruments is ideal for pushing back.
Are cuticle nippers from Solingen better?
Cuticle nippers from Solingen traditionally stand for high-quality stainless steel, precise hand-honing, long service life, and clean, exact cuts. Quality manufacturers from Solingen produce durable instruments that hold their own in professional use too.
Why does the skin sometimes tear despite using cuticle nippers?
Possible causes include dull blades, too much pressure, dry skin, or incorrect cutting technique. Sharp, precisely honed cuticle nippers and working on slightly softened skin prevent tearing.
How do I clean, care for, and disinfect my cuticle nippers?
Clean, disinfect, and dry thoroughly after each use; occasionally oil the joint with a drop of oil. Professional stainless-steel models can also be sterilized. Regular care significantly extends their lifespan.
Can I have my cuticle nippers resharpened?
Yes – high-quality nippers can be resharpened. Our sharpening service keeps the fine blade precise for a long time.
Which cuticle nippers are suitable for professional or podiatry use?
For practices, we recommend sterilizable double-spring cuticle nippers along with complementary podiatry instruments – robust and built for daily use.
Are cuticle nippers made of stainless steel?
Yes – our cuticle nippers are made of stainless steel: a precise blade, hygienic, disinfectable, and durable.
What is part of complete cuticle care?
Complete cuticle care includes a cuticle nippers or cuticle scissors, a pusher from our nail instruments, and tweezers – all combined in our manicure sets.
