That courage is what this blade stands for. It was inspired by Theodore Roosevelt's speech "Citizenship in a Republic". An excerpt from that speech, known as "The Man in the Arena", is engraved in full on the reverse of the blade.
The speech holds that it is not the critic who counts, but that all credit belongs to the man in the arena who dares greatly.
