Learn more: removing ticks and choosing the right scissors

Removing a tick correctly

  • Place the tool directly on the skin, as close as possible to the tick's head, not on the engorged body.
  • Pull straight out, slowly and evenly. Do not twist or jerk, or the head will tear off.
  • No oil, no glue, no nail polish. These irritate the tick and increase the risk of it releasing pathogens.
  • Disinfect the site afterwards and keep an eye on it for a few days. See a vet if it reddens or swells.
  • Models with a holding bracket grip the tick more securely, which helps when the animal will not keep still.

Which dog grooming scissors?

  • 21 cm – handy for paws, face and ears as well as for smaller breeds.
  • 25 cm – for large areas and dense coats, fewer cuts for the same area.
  • Serrated on one side – the teeth hold the hair instead of pushing it away from the blade. The right choice for smooth, slippery coats.
  • Serrated on both sides – maximum grip on dense or matted coats.

Care

Remove hair after every use, wipe the scissors down and store them dry. Add a drop of oil to the joint now and then. Blunt scissors can be resharpened through our sharpening service instead of being replaced.
